Summer Activities with Children 

Summer is here full force and who is feeling it more than the kids and parents who care for those kids! I know that I, for one, am working overtime trying to find different ways to keep myself and my kids busy! If you’re struggling, here are some of the ideas that I’ver gathered! 



-Library Reading Programs 

Have you checked out your local library for information on their Summer Reading Program? I’ve tried (and registered for) Jefferson, Denver, Englewood, Arapahoe, and Aurora Public Libraries Reading Programs! 


Each of these libraries offers a prize when you register and a prize for completing the reading minutes/hours! If you read more than the set minutes/hours you are also entered into their grand prize drawing! These programs are available for all ages, babies to adults! It is a great way to encourage reading and be rewarded for the hard work! 


-Visit a Playground

This one seems like a no brainer, but have you seen the amount of cool and themed playgrounds we have here in Denver and surrounding areas? I love taking my kids to explore new playgrounds. A bonus for us is traveling a little bit to make it an "adventure." 


I know as a parent, especially to young kids, it can be a little daunting to go to a new playground when you do not really know what to expect. This is why I really love finding inspiration for playgrounds to visit through the @coloradokidadventures on Instagram. Not only do they provide you with ideas for playgrounds, but they give you information on what to expect while at the park/playground! It helps me feel more prepared for a time out with my kids. 


-The Birth Squad Community Meet Up!

Every third Monday of the month at 11AM we hold our monthly community meet up at the Children’s Museum Denver! Join us at the Children’s Museum for a fun hang out, you get free full day entry to the museum so you can stay and play as long as you’d like!


We get to meet in a private space, catch up with each other, eat some snacks, and get some information on infant development! After catching up, everyone has the opportunity to explore the museum and find a new space to play and spend time with your kids and other parents! The best part? Come to a meet up 3 times and the Children’s Museum will gift you a free year membership! 


-Go to a Rockies (or Rapids) game: 

I went to my first Rockies (and honestly just baseball) game in April with my kids and had such a great time! As I’m sure many know, Coors Field does many things to include children and give them the space to be! From offering first game certificates to the two playgrounds available at the stadium, they make having children at the game a little easier! 


Now again, the best part? You can get a discount on Rockies (and Rapids!) tickets through Jeffco Public Libraries! Click the links below for more information!
